Apostle Roderick Hughey

Apostle Roderick Lamar Hughey, Sr was born on February 19, 1970, in Atlanta, GA to Veola Hughey of Buena Vista, GA. From a young age, Roderick was always a vivacious spirit who loved being at the center of the action. Full of ambition, it was obvious that he had superior athleticism, and the gift of leadership, which would prove vital all throughout his life. At East Hall High School in Gainesville, GA, Roderick was well known for his eclectic style and lively presence, which he flaunted in confidence as a Varsity Basketball and Football player for the East Hall Vikings. After high school he went on to play basketball at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. While there, he continued his journey of education and athletics, which ultimately led him back to east Hall to join the athletic department as a Community Coach. He also coached and refereed for several youth leagues and provided mentorship to a countless number of athletes in Gwinnett, Hall, and surrounding counties. Pursuant to the call of God on his life, Apostle furthered his education in Biblical Theology and continued to pursue that call until death. Roderick began serving in ministry at an early age and gave his life to Christ in 1990. He began his pastoral ministry in 1996. Apostle Hughey was well known for his charismatic teaching style and prolific revelations of biblical text and was graced to minister across the United States in many churches and various denominations by leading retreats and seminars, teaching, and preaching. As a licensed and ordained Pastor, Roderick served and planted many ministries, such as Roderick Hughey Ministries, Deliverance Outreach Ministries, The Hope Center of Elberton. He was the Founder & Senior Pastor of The Community Church of Atlanta, Gainesville, GA, and served as Apostle of Church of Life Deliverance Tabernacle, Lula, GA. Apostle Hughey partnered with the dReam Church of Atlanta, Decatur, GA, in 2019 under the leadership of Bishop William H, Murphy, III. In addition to his pastoral ministry, Apostle Hughey served as Chaplain for the City of Gainesville Police Department, Founder & CEO of Gainesville United, Inc., President of Interdenominational Black Ministers Association, and was an active liaison for several campaigns seeking to bridge the gaps of justice and uplift those marginalized and/or oppressed in our society. He was also a co-host of The Martha Zoller Show on WDUN AM/FM Radio. As a Hall County native, Apostle Hughey was intentional and passionate about serving and giving back to his fellow men. His personal and ministry motto was “Reaching Out, to Reach Within” as he believed to embrace lost souls in any capacity, it “takes US” to “reach “US”. Roderick shared his innovation and dedication to hard work and entrepreneurship as owner of Hughey Business Solutions and Roderick Hughey Cleaning Agency. In 2018, Roderick was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Velmeka England, and together they built a family and a life filled with love and laughter. To this union was born one daughter, Gailayah Sime Hughey and he received his stepson, Jordan England, as his own. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Viola Hughey, two uncles, Robert Lee Hughey and Jimmy Lee Hughey and leaves the following to cherish his precious memories: His devoted wife, Pastor Velmeka England Hughey, Buford, GA; Ten children: Keldrick Coleman (Tarika), Covington, GA, Wesley Hughey, Lula, GA, Roderica Hughey, Lawrenceville, GA, Haley Goss, Gainesville, GA, Shiheim Hughey, Gainesville, GA, Xavier Hughey, Atlanta, GA, Roderick Hughey Jr., Stockbridge, GA, Broderick Hughey, Decatur, GA, Jordan England, Buford, GA, and Gailayah Hughey, Buford, GA; Nine grandchildren: Kassidy Coleman, Jordyn Moon, Harmony Sanders, Journee Garrett, Jaley Garrett, Shiheim “SJ” Hughey, Jr., Joy Garrett, Krue Coleman, and Trevion “TJ” Garrett; Parents, Willie and Veola Hughey Thomas, Lula, GA; Father, Tyrone (Sandra) Williams; Brother, Tyrone Williams, Jr; Two Sisters, Tiffany Williams and Kristi Williams; One Aunt, Maria Lewis, A special mother, Ruth Ann Morse, Lula, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family, and special friends. Rod Hughey will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His warmth, wisdom, and the joy he brought to every gathering will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
