Joseph Ellis Hamner Jr., A beloved Father, brother and friend went on to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday April 5, 2020. After a courageous fight with Cancer and other age appropriate ailments, Joseph departed to take his rest in the City of God. Joseph was born August 17, 1941 in Tuscaloosa Alabama to Oma Lee (Woods) Hamner and Joe Hamner Sr. At an early age his parents and family moved to Lackawanna, NY where he spent his formative years. As a child he showed great promise, intellectual prowess and drive to be successful. He excelled in his educational pursuits and didn't stop until receiving his MBA from Boston University. His career spans from his employment at Rhetta's Poultry Market in Lackawanna, NY where he was known as " The Priestman," to retirement as a Senior Manager at M & T Bank Buffalo, NY. His banking career is marked by many illustrius achievements such as being the 1st African American to manage the main office of Buffalo Savings Bank. His leadership abilities afforded him to serve on many community boards. The signature of his leadership was he always wanted to find ways to make life better for all people. Whether that meant better customer service, better quality products or better overall conditions. For Joe Hamner what mattered most was quality and values. November 1965 Joseph married Judy A. Botley, to that union was born Sedrick and Cheron. With tenacity and profound determination Joseph intentionally modeled Fatherhood. He was a protector, provider, Priest, cheerleader, coach, instructor, mentor, taxi driver, and friend as he was determined to be the best dad he could be. Joseph loved the Lord, his family and life with gusto. He was a man of commitment, thus making every moment spent with family and friends special. His love for preachers made him "ArchBishop", his love for his sisters Dorothy, Delores, and Claudette, made him "Ellis" or "LSD". His love for friends made him "Pop", and his love for people in general made him a instant friend . Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Oma Hamner, his sister Claudette "Kim" Perry. He leaves to cherish his never fading memory, his children Sedrick L. Hamner; Cheron (Tracy) Hamner-Burse; Sisters Dorothy Woody, Delores "Tee" Volious; Grandchildren Niara Tabb, Jonathan McCaleb, Camry McCaleb, Terrance (Angelica) Chandler-Harrison, Martinique Walton, CJ (Ceesha)Peters; Great Grandchildren Karter Sweat, Nori Sweat; Adopted daughters Dorothea Norman, Shavonda McCaleb. Adopted Sons Todd (Etrudy) Mitchell, Brett (Tangela) Jackson. And a host of Nephews, Nieces, and Cousins. He was loved by many,and his love for many continues to flow. Joseph E.
