Cody Poke

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25. Cody Devone Poke was born December 17, 1965, to Mr. & Mrs. Obie Poke (Margaret) in Abbeville, Alabama. At a young age Cody moved to El Paso, Texas and attended Andress High School. He went on to further his education at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Cody was an outstanding athlete in track and excelled as a football star winning numerous honors in High School and College. After college, Cody decided to do some travelling to various states before deciding to make Atlanta his home. It was during this time he went on a quest to find and marry his childhood sweetheart, Crystal Wardlaw-Poke. Cody was employed by DeKalb Medical Center, Shoney’s Warehouse and finally obtained a career with DeKalb County Water and Sewer Management. Cody took pride in his job and remained employed until he was diagnosed with ALS and retired in 2009. Cody was a wise man and always filled with life. He took pride in his family and cherished relationships with his friends. Cody was very generous and would do anything to help those in need without expecting anything in return. An avid sports fan, Cody took GREAT PRIDE in cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide Roll!!!). Although Cody was diagnosed with ALS he did not allow the illness to stop him from living. He continued to live in spite of his circumstances. Cody loved Jesus Christ and received him as his Lord and Savior at an early age. On March 29, 2015, Cody completed new member’s class at Hunter Hill 1st Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until he departed this life on Sunday, April 22, 2018 Cody leaves to honor and cherish his memories, his soulmate, faithful, and loving wife, Crystal Wardlaw-Poke, one daughter Dominique Enriquez, El Paso, Texas; two sons, Calvin Smith and Caleb Wardlaw; 4 Grandchildren, Amaya, Azayvier, Avien, and Ayolanie Price, El Paso, TX; Parents, Margaret Poke, Stone Mountain, GA; and Obie Poke El Paso, TX; one Brother, Frederick Poke (Judy), El Paso, Texas; Zandra Nelson (Felix, Sr.), Columbus, GA; Vicky Wright (Roosevelt); and many favorite aunts and uncles and a host of other family and friends.
