Darlesa Diray Johnson

Darlesa DiRay Johnson, began her earthly assignment on August 8, 1968. She was born to the late James Edward Johnson and the late Gloria Jean Nix in Buffalo, New York. Darlesa, affectionately called ‘Lesa”, was educated in the Buffalo Public School system. While attending PS#37 for elementary school, she learned to play the flute. She became so proficient that she was hand selected to join the band in the fifth grade. After graduating elementary school, she attended Buffalo Traditional High School where she continued playing the flute in the band. She also, began tutoring students in math. Upon graduation she attended college after being accepted to Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y. where she majored in mathematics. She later returned to school at Athens Technical College for Engineering. Lesa’s ability to calculate figures so effortlessly was truly a sight to see. And while she loved math, reading, watching Sci-Fi films and Columbo reruns were also among her favorite things to do. She had an especial fondness for her participation in Toastmaster events and, of course, cooking. Coming home to a house filled with delightful aromas, day after day was a treat to her loved ones. Lesa was once an executive chef to the Richs’, the owners of Rich Products. She enjoyed cooking so much that she along with her sister Cynthia and brother Craig established CC&D, a successful catering company in Winston Salem, N.C. Upon relocating to Georgia, Lesa held positions in several industries. From Athens Herald Banner to Dayton Superior to Hitachi Automotive, Lesa was a model employee and a shining example of hard work and dedication. During her employment with Hitachi, Lesa often spoke of the importance of safety and protecting the public. Her colleagues have fondly recalled her reputation as an advocate for structure and process. She took her responsibilities as a Lead Quality Inspector seriously, and her passion was felt by her peers. When Lesa was very young, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, she was baptized at Mount Aaron Baptist Church in Buffalo, N.Y. She later became a member of St John Baptist Church of Gainesville, Ga. Lesa, was a strong believer in the Lord and that love of Christ continued throughout her life. She loved reading the bible. She began journaling to enhance her study and prayer life. It was very common to see Lesa with journals with detailed notes and scriptures. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 136:23. Dalesa DiRay Johnson received her heavenly reward on February 28, 2024. She joins her father James Edward Johnson, her mother, Gloria Jean Nix, and her brothers, Craig Johnson (Lydia) and Arriet Durham Sr. (Cashell) in the loving arms of Our Lord. She leaves her daughter, Jalisa Griggs, to carry on the legacy of her faith and good works. Lesa’s memory also lives on through her four sisters: Ethel Mae Johnson, Cynthia Jackson (Michael), Penny Johnson and Corvette Johnson. Two brothers: Derrick Nix and Lamount Johnson. One aunt: Rosia McClain. Seven nieces: Kim, Vanita, Carol, Lakita, Ashley, Fabrae and Gloria. Six nephews: Billy, Marlon, Greg, Ramon, Philip’ and Arriet Jr. A host of cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, friends and family.
