Genora Buford

The Life and Legacy of Genora Buford (Mommy) Ms. Genora Buford, lovingly called Gen, was born June 30, 1941, to the late Janie Greenwood, and John Henry Shaw Sr. in Camden MS. She accepted Christ at an early at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, MS. Ms. Genora graduated from Velma Jackson HS in Camden MS in 1958. Shortly after graduation Genora relocated to Gary, IN and was united in Holy Matrimony to James Griffith Jr. To this union a daughter, Angela Estelle Griffith, was born. She then relocated to Flint MI, where she met and married Raymond Buford Jr, to this union her second Daughter, Shavonda Latisha Buford was born. Ms. Buford was gainfully employed for General Motors at Fisher Body in Flint MI, and Delphi in Saginaw MI. Ms. Buford was an active UAW Union Member until she retired after more than 25 years of service. Ms. Genora continued her spiritual walk at First Trinity Missionary Baptist in Flint, MI under the leadership of Late Pastor F.O. Hockenhull where she faithfully served on the Security Team, and was a member of the Bowling League of First Trinity. Some of her joys of life were gardening, shopping, walking in the mall daily, a love for interior decorating collecting angel figurines and traveling with her family. In Sept. 2017 she moved to Duluth, GA with her family and resided until God saw fit to call His angel home. Gen was preceded by death 1 sister Mariah Shaw-Cannon, 5 Brothers John Shaw Jr, Frank Greenwood, Cleophus (Bo) Shaw, Jerry Shaw, Cleophus Meeks. She was also preceded by her nephew Sylvester Ross, and great-nephew Dwan Ware. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters Angela Griffith of Lawrenceville GA, and Shavonda Buford -King of Loganville GA., 4 Grandchildren- Antwan Pettway of Burton MI, Trayvon Dozier of Pontiac MI, E’Vashay King, and Javion Fleming both of Loganville, GA. 2 Great- grandchildren Janayah and Jace Pettway of Burton MI. Gen was also cherished by her sister Clara Ross of Gainesville Florida, two sister in-laws, Barbara Shaw and Angela Greenwood. Three brothers Tip Shaw of Tucker GA, Clarence Meeks of Canton, MS, and Peter Meeks of Jackson, MS. A host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
