Hattie Mae Goss

Mrs. Hattie Mae Cantrell Goss, age 91, was born on September 3, 1934, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Virgil and Irene Sosebee Cantrell. She peacefully entered eternal rest on May 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. At a young age, Hattie Mae’s family moved to Gainesville, where she attended the historic Beulah Rucker School. There, she met and married the love of her life, Leon Goss, Sr., in 1952. Their union was blessed with five children: Leon Jr., Tracy, Janice, David, and Adrian. Hattie Mae and Leon shared 30 years of marriage before his sudden and untimely passing. In addition to raising her children, she lovingly raised four of her grandchildren—LaCorey, Justin, Kendrick, and Leona Goss—and became a mother figure to many children throughout her community. Hattie Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon Goss, Sr.; her sons, Leon Goss, Jr. and David Goss; her daughter, Janice Goss Williams; her grandson, LaCorey Goss; and her brothers, Frank, Leonard, Gonzales, J.V., and Ellis Cantrell. At an early age, Hattie Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church until her health no longer allowed her to attend regularly. Her faith served as the foundation of her life and guided her love for family and service to others. Throughout her life, Hattie Mae dedicated herself to helping others through her work in Hall County, Georgia. She worked for many years with the Hall County Department of Family and Children Services, in Early Childhood Education, and later as a Home Health Aid for an assisted living agency. Her compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for people made a lasting impact on countless lives. She believed that every person mattered and always sought ways to make a difference. Left to cherish her precious memories are her sons, Tracy (Mattie) Goss and Adrian Goss; her sister, Mary Jones; her sister-in-law, Dora Nell Cantrell; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Hattie Mae lived a life marked by love, strength, faith, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
