Marilyn Ann Lipscomb

Marilyn Ann Lipscomb was born December 14, 1951, in Hall County, Georgia to the late Eugene Lipscomb and Minnie Lois Lott Young. She departed this life on August 1, 2026. At an early age Marilyn joined the Cross Plains Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia, where she served as a devoted and faithful member of the choir and Sunday School ministry. After completing high school, Ann, as she is affectionately called, moved to Albany, Georgia, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Albany State College in 1980, earning a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development. Her tireless work ethic and strong desire to positively impact others, allowed her to hold various positions while in Albany, but it was when she moved back to Gainesville, Georgia that she fully immersed herself in her calling to educate. Among other roles in education, Ann served as an elementary teacher in the Gainesville City and Hall County school districts for several years before retiring. After retirement, she continued her life mission of service to others by becoming a caregiver and helping anyone she could. Ann was a kind and gentle soul who meant the world to everyone who knew her. To our family, she was Mama, Grandmama, Sis, Auntie, and Cuz. When she wasn't caring for someone or spending time with loved ones, Ann enjoyed planting flowers that were as beautiful as she was; each of them a true reflection of the love, kindness, and grace that she always showed. Her smile and laughter could light up any room. Ann lived a simple life, but she led with elegance and class, forever teaching lessons or being a role model for how to just be yourself. She loved having family gatherings and was always a joy to be around. Her fun-loving spirit and warm nature will be dearly missed. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, the late Eugene Lipscomb; her mother, the late Minnie Lois Lott Young; her brother, the late Johnny Lipscomb; and her sister, the late Sherry Young Anderson. She is survived by one son, Mr. Anton Goodman of Albany, Georgia; one grandchild, Syer Bryce; three brothers, Mr. Larry Lipscomb of Gainesville Georgia; Mr. Randall (Kimberly) Young of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mr. Adrian (Carolyn) Young of Talmo, Georgia; three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Young (Linwood) Sanders of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mrs. Connie Young Gardner of Ellenwood, Georgia; and Ms. Christine Stafford of Arlington, Texas; a God-sister, Ms. Barbara Blackwell of Cornelia, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Lipscomb of Gainesville, Georgia; a very dear uncle, Mr. Harold (Patricia) Lott of Gainesville, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
