Ollie Jean Young

Ollie Jean Young, a devoted mother, loving sister, and treasured friend, entered eternal rest on August 1, 2026. Born on May 13, 1941, in Cleveland, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Cicero Paul Sr. “Buster” and Dora Moore Singleton. Raised in a large and close-knit family alongside her siblings, Ollie’s early life was rooted in love, unity, and resilience—values that shaped her character and remained with her throughout her life. At an early age, Ollie accepted Christ at Antioch Baptist Church. She later became a faithful member of Community Chapel under the leadership of Elder Edna Dorsey, where she served devotedly for many years. Ollie graduated from Fair Street High School, where she proudly served as a majorette in the marching band. She went on to establish a strong work ethic through various jobs in Gainesville, Georgia, including more than 20 years of dedicated service at the Leece-Neville Gainesville Plant. She later worked for Jill Ramsey Mansfield, where she was embraced not only as an employee, but as family. That love was deeply mutual, and she became affectionately known as “Ya-Ya” by Alicia and Ramsey Hill. Ollie was joined in marriage, and from that union she was blessed with a beautiful and loving family. Her seven children and the generations that followed were among the greatest blessings of her life, filling her heart with love, happiness, and countless treasured memories. Her family was a constant source of strength and brought her immense pride and joy. Ollie’s life was a beautiful reflection of her love for family, food, and fellowship. Her home was always open, and there was always room for one more at her table. She welcomed everyone with warmth and generosity, whether they were family, lifelong friends, neighbors, or complete strangers. Known far and wide for her incredible cooking, “OJ’s” became a gathering place where good food, laughter, and love were always in abundance. People from throughout the community would stop by, knowing they would be welcomed with open arms and, more often than not, a plate of something delicious. Many who entered as friends soon became like family, affectionately calling one another “cuz.” At Ollie’s house, you didn’t have to be related by blood to have a place at the table. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, the love Ollie poured into others will continue to live on through every life she touched. Her laughter, kindness, generous spirit, and open door will forever remain treasured memories and a lasting testimony of a life well lived. Rest peacefully, “Ya-Ya”—your table is now set in glory, and your love will forever remain in our hearts. Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, Cicero Paul Sr. “Buster” and Dora Moore Singleton; and her siblings, John H. Moore, Joe L. Moore, Cicero Paul Singleton Jr., Sylvester Singleton, and Ellen V. Singleton. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her seven children: Alvin Singleton-Young, Calvin Singleton-Young, Zachary (Argea) Young, LaQuettia Dionna (Randy) Mincey, Vincent Leon “Cool” Young, Cedric P. (Jessie) Young, and Julia Michelle Young; 24 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Albert Phillip Singleton, Bernice “Tiny” Singleton, Alice Gwen Harbin, Alwayne (Cecil) Randolph, and Martha Lynn (Robert) Brundage; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were blessed by her love and who will forever cherish her memory.
