Charles Wilson Harris

Mr. Charles W. Harris was born on December 26, 1944 to the late Eugene Harris and Julia V. (Crow) Harris in Cornelia, Georgia. He was raised by his beloved grandmother, the late Zelma Crow. He answered the summons of labor to reward on August 23, 2022. As a young child, under the guidance of his grandmother, Charles joined The Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, Georgia. After relocating to Buford, Georgia, he immediately engaged to unite with the Allen Temple United Methodist Church. As a member of Allen Temple, Charles began serving on the Men’s Ministry, Trustee Ministry, and became a Lay Speaker in 2008. He was a true servant of God and was passionate about walking like Christ. Charles was also a member of the Prince Hall Freemasonry. On January 22, 1966, Charles united in holy matrimony with Susie F. Gibson Harris. Charles graduated from Cornelia Regional High School in Cornelia, Georgia. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army as a PFC. Shortly after, his commitment to public service continued, working for the Alto State Prison, The City of Buford Police Department, & The Lake Lanier Island Police Department. After working in public service for numerous years, Charles transitioned to the private sector, and was employed by General Motors, where he worked for 26 years as a supervisor, until his retirement. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Harris; his parents, Eugene and Julia Harris; his grandmother, Zelma Crow; his children, Charles Bryant and Rhonda Elaine, his sisters, Barbara Louise and Linda Jean; his niece, Terria Young, his nephew, Michael King. Many loving memories will be cherished by his sons, Anthony (Cassandra) Harris of Statham, Georgia, and Frank (Valaire) Green of Dahlonega, Georgia; grandchildren, Shikica Jackson, Monterio (Takeda) Pierce, Desmond Sherman, Ron (Katelynn) Harris, Antwan (Hope) Harris, Ebony (Jason) Rogers, Jade (Jermelle) Thomas, Zaira Harris, Isaiah Green, Toya Cunningham, and Meeka Jones; sisters, Betty Williams of Toccoa, Georgia and Rebecca (Tommy) Perry of Bethlehem, Georgia; sister in laws, Winnie Gibson, and Elizabeth Gibson; nephews, Gary Williams, Tracy Perry, Kevin Perry, Paul King, Charles Gibson, and Craig Gibson; nieces, Barbara Williams and Kim Williams; Sarita Davidson, Kimberly Wimberly, Denise Owens; 18 great grandchildren, a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, many sorrowing relatives, and friends.
