Wallace Watson

Wallace Watson was born on January 23, 1950, in Winder, Georgia, to the late Eldona “Polly” Watson and George “Boot” Watson. He was the third of eight children. He received his education in the Barrow County School System and graduated from Glenwood High School. Shortly after graduation, Wallace proudly served his country by joining the United States Army. Throughout his life, Wallace was a dedicated worker. His employment included positions with DeKalb County Water Works, as a cab driver in Atlanta, Tara Materials, and Avon Distribution. In 1974, Wallace married Louise Watson, and to this union four sons were born. In 1995, he married Cassandra Watson, and through this marriage he was blessed with a fifth son. In 1998, Wallace welcomed his first grandchild, and over the years his family grew to include nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. Wallace began his Christian journey at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bogart, Georgia, under the leadership of Rev. Cash. He later joined Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Glynn Hendricks. Deacon Watson served faithfully under several pastors, including Rev. Gaither and his current pastor, Rev. Kenneth “Pope” Cooper, until his health declined. He was well known for leading devotion and singing his favorite songs, “This is the Dressing Up Room” and “Want It to Be Grand.” Devotion always began on time—if necessary, he would begin it alone. Wallace found joy in cutting grass, working on cars, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Percilla Roberts, James Watson, Doris Lyles, Donnie Watson, and Eddie Watson. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cassandra Watson; five sons: Diwon (Lisa) Watson of Monroe, Decoby (Angela) Watson of Bethlehem, Javad (Tiffany) Watson of Alabama, Perez Watson of Winder, and Ralph Jones of Winder; nine grandchildren: Courtney Watson, ReZhane Glover, Camil Watson, Tevarez Watson, Anthony Watson, Antoria Watson, Jaiden Jones, and Nevaeh Jones; two great-grandchildren: Rayvn Peeples and Londyn Malcom; two sisters: Willie Nell Wilmont and Ella Jane Watson; brothers-in-law: Samuel Wilmont, Morris Hightower, and Robert Hightower; sister-in-law: Veronica Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
